First trip

Sometime in August maybe even September I was walking down the hall in my church and my friend Larry stopped me and said you need to go with me to Guatemala.  I thought about it for a few seconds and thought if Larry says I should go I probably should so I signed up.  Then my friend Sharon signed up and she had just been during the summer but felt she needed to go back to confirm what she saw on her first trip.  Our team was small only five people but we were anxious to see the Lord work thru us.

The clinics were very much like they continue to be today,  we shared the gospel and prayed.  I remember praying for God to take away pain and over and over He was faithful and came and healed right there using my prayers.  Wow that was cool.  I never had seen that and I wasn't that good at prayer.  These people came with expectant hearts.  They didn't have a doctor to run to every time they had an illness so prayer was their hope.

The biggest miracle I remember from that first trip is that I have returned many times over the next seven years, because I had expectations for the trip.  I thought if I was out doing God's work he would give me a week of peace from my headaches and that didn't happen.  It was a tough week with my head and I really didn't understand why God let that happen.  If I look back I think God was giving me an opportunity to find out He would walk with me thru my headaches.  Now seven years and maybe a dozen trips later Guatemala is the place I love take my friends.
